The Dates for X-Weeks 24/25 are set!

Incoming exchange students, mark your calendars!

2024/08/14

We hope you are all excited and looking forward to commencing your studies at TU Darmstadt! To help you settle into life at TU Darmstadt and Germany as an exchange student, the ISS team organises the X-Weeks at the beginning of each semester. This winter semester, the orientation programme will be filled with important information and opportunities to get to know the university, Darmstadt, and your fellow exchange students before the semester officially starts.

The X-Weeks are taking place from the third to fifth of September this semester.

Welcome and Orientation

From the third to the fifth of September, exciting orientation events will be taking place on Campus Stadtmitte in a building called the Maschinenhaus. This location is relatively central as it is within walking distance from the central bus and tram stations in Darmstadt like Luisenplatz or Schloss.

On day one, starting from 2 p.m., we are going to welcome you officially on campus and introduce you to your fellow exchange student as well as your Erasmus and Overseas Officers, ISS (us!), Unite!, TUtor International, and more! Then, from 3.30 p.m., you will have the chance to get to know the variety of services, important contact persons, and student-led university groups that TU Darmstadt has to offer during the X-Weeks info fair. The student-led group Erasmus Student Network (ESN) will also be hosting a Stammtisch event at one of Darmstadt’s student hotspots, Krone, so make sure you don’t miss out on this chance to make new friends and connections!

Day two will be dedicated to the essentials. On this day, you will learn more about the first steps you have to take after your arrival as an exchange student. We will explain how to register at the residents’ registration office and how to open a bank account in Germany before we talk about topics related to the Foreigners Office. Learning the basics about visas and residence permits is crucial to make sure that nothing can go wrong during your stay here in Germany. Of course, you will also have the chance to talk to our experts and ask questions afterward by visiting their consultant desks, be it about the previously mentioned topics or other subjects like health insurance. After a day full of more serious topics, what would be better than attending ESN’s Speedfriending event for a chance to find even more new friends at 5.30 p.m. (location TBA)?

On day three you will have an opportunity to take part in our student panel, where student assistants and experienced exchange students will talk about their own experiences as students of TU Darmstadt and give you first-hand advice and tips for a successful stay in this city. You’ll learn a lot about what the university and the city have to offer. After the panel, you can discover the campus through our brand-new programme ‘Campus Quest’ alongside the TUtor International Team and get to know your fellow exchange students better at Herrngarten. This will all be topped off by ESN’s Welcome Night at the Hochschulgruppenhaus at Campus Stadtmitte.

Exciting events in the coming weeks

As you’ve probably realized by now, during the X-Weeks, you will not only receive information and tips on how to organise your stay, but you will also have a lot of fun! Stay tuned for even more exciting social and cultural events that we have planned together with our partners just for you. Over the next few weeks you will get to know other students at game nights and meet-ups as well as discover the city and the region through city rallies, tours and day trips. If you are already here by August 30, don't miss out on TUtor International's Meet&Chill at 6 p.m.

Do you want to get to know the university and its facilities even better? Then you can also take a tour of the University and State Library Darmstadt (ULB) at Campus Stadtmitte. This library is TU Darmstadt’s central library and also the universal academic library for the people of Darmstadt and southern Hesse. It’s a crucial part of most students’ lives due to its abundance of resources and it being most students’ learning place of choice. You can explore the building and learn more about the services offered there. There will be two tours held on 23 September, 2.30 p.m. and 24 September, 2.30 p.m. respectively. Registration is necessary, so please regularly check the the X-Weeks website for the registration form!

The ISS Team cannot wait to meet you!
