About me

Salut! My name is Ons and I am currently studying mechatronics at TU Darmstadt. I come from Tunisia and have been in Germany for about two years to continue my studies. I decided to study at TU Darmstadt because I can study mechatronics here, which combines my passion for mechanics and electrical engineering with my interest in computer science.

Darmstadt in not a big city, but it has a beautiful scenic side to it. If you ever need a break from your daily student life, you can hit up the many parks (Herrngarten, des Prinz-Emil-Garten and the Rosenhöhe) that I spend my free time in.

Why I chose TU Darmstadt:

I decided to study at TU Darmstadt, because of its national recognition and the good reputation. I am especially excited about the fact that the TUD has mechatronics as a field of study, for me to study.

What I like about Darmstadt:

As a Student I believe that Darmstadt is the perfect city for students. It is almost in the middle of Germany, which makes traffic connections easy. Indeed, Darmstadt in not a big city, but it has a beautiful scenic side to it. If you ever need a break from your daily student life, you can hit up the many parks (Herrngarten, des Prinz-Emil-Garten and the Rosenhöhe) that I spend my free time in.

What makes you happy?

Sometimes when I feel depressed and stuck in my own feelings, I try to motivate myself and remind myself how easy it could be to feel happier. What really cheers me up and makes me happy quickly is sitting on a beach listening to the crashing waves and breathing in the fresh air. I also like to doodle to express myself and relax. Painting is a challenge for me and with every drawn line I see an improvement and I feel a sense of accomplishment, which automatically increases my happiness. Sometimes little things like cooking something without following the recipe can also make me quite happy.

What would you tell your younger self?

You are not the only person in the world who feels this way, whatever “this way” is that you feel. You shouldn't be hard on yourself or take it too seriously. If you need a break, just take it. You should not stress about things you have no control over. It is okay to seek help. Try to connect with others so you can support each other. Be more curious. Try new things. Strive for something that challenges you, but be careful in between.

And don't forget to forgive yourself and be grateful for what you have.

Three words to describe your personality

organised, adventurous, responsible

Which places in Darmstadt you have always wanted to visit, but still haven’t?

As a nature lover, I was always looking for places where Ilike to spend time. I think Darmstadt is very worth seeing. Due to the current situation, it was not possible for me to explore everything. I would love to visit the Oberwaldhaus recreational park and the International Forest Art Trail. I would also like to visit the Heinerfest. When I came here, many people told me about it. So I'm looking forward to visiting it and exploring more of the Hessian culture.

Fun fact about me:

I count the steps of every flight of stairs I take.

My favourite quote:
