Learn German for your future – anytime and anywhere! This online language course is designed especially for STEM-students who want to improve their prospective careers with a German language course. Here you will learn basic German communication skills through the lens of the academic world. You will practice essential communication situations you would encounter in a study abroad situation such as: asking questions effectively in the lecture, talking with fellow students about assignments as well as engaging in basic small-talk with others. You will reflect on how the academic setting at a German university is similar or may differ from your home academic setting. By the end of this course, you should be able to engage in basic communication situations. For students considering a semester abroad in Germany, this course may be interesting as well.

You already have a basic knowledge of German and are considering a semester abroad at a German university? Then this course is exactly for you! You will increase your knowledge of German academic life and be able to communicate with German students on a basic level on topics having to do with everyday life at a German university. On a formal level, you will learn how to write basic formal e-mails to professors and develop and practice important strategies for understanding academic texts. If you are considering a semester abroad, this course would be an excellent way for you to begin preparation.

This pre-intermediate language course is designed to strengthen students’ German speaking, writing and listening skills in an academic setting. Our thematic focus lies with mathematics, as this serves as a springboard for communication in all engineering and natural science fields. Coursebook exercises will be supplemented with authentic texts and video recordings from in-house lectures and tutorials.
By the end of the course, you should be able to communicate more effectively in an academic setting, with professors as well as with fellow students. You will be able to convey information and ideas on abstract as well as concrete topics, check information and ask about or explain problems with reasonable precision. You will be able to reasonably fluently sustain a straightforward description of one of a variety of subjects of personal interest, presenting it as a linear sequence of points.
