This depends on the department, which creates the corresponding registration deadlines and allocation procedures. A good indication is given by the time period, which can be viewed under the heading Registration deadlines in the course overview. If it is a so-called pending registration, the allocation will in any case take place shortly after the registration deadline. You will receive a message whether your registration has been accepted or rejected and, if so, in which exercise group you have been registered.
