Philosophical Anthropology

The philosophical anthropology of Helmuth Plessner has received a revival over the last decades. An international reception is, however, still missing. This may change in the future due to a recent translation of his book „Levels of Organic Life and the Human“. Plessner tries to develop a concept of organic life that can avoid dualistic assumptions but will nevertheless be able to understand the specificities of the human being in a non-reductionistic way. This approach has been discussed in various contexts but there has been hardly engagements with ethics. To study the relationship between Plesner’s approach to philosophical anthropology and philosophical ethics is an important desideratum.

Projects are welcome regarding any question within the mentioned field.
