The first point of contact for adults in case of general illness or injury is a general practitioner (Allgemeinarzt or Hausarzt). The first point of contact for children in case of general illness or injury is a pediatrician (Kinderarzt). A pediatrician also conducts the medical checkups for children “U1” to “U9”. It is recommended that children see the doctor for regular checkups from birth till the age of 6, as part of the early detection programme.
