University Facilities

TU Darmstadt does not only offer great education but also many extra services and facilities targeted at students’ requirements.

Libraries

The university library (Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek – ULB) is situated between Altes Hauptgebäude and the Mensa in Magdalenenstr. 8. It is open from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. every day; during the exam period it does not close at all. You can use your Athena Card as a library card to borrow books and access the lockers of the libraries. You can also use your Athena Card in the library branch office at the Lichtwiese campus and in most of the smaller department libraries. You can find more information and the opening hours of the different libraries on the ULB website.

Cafeterias

There are several cafeterias (called Mensa) on the two main campuses. They offer inexpensive, daily meals and a large variety of snacks and drinks. You can pay with the chip card (called “Athena Card”) that you can get at the HRZ (Hochschulrechenzentrum) service office (see next section). Cafeterias add 0.30 EUR to the price if you pay cash.

Computers and Wi-Fi

The university computer centre (Hochschulrechenzentrum – HRZ) provides free-to-use computer rooms with Internet access and an inexpensive printing service. They also offer free Wi-Fi (via Eduroam) in most university areas.

To use these services (and the campus management system TUCaN) you need to activate your TU ID on the HRZ website with the access code printed on your enrolment certificate.
