What are the consequences of not withdrawing from a module?

You can only register for a module once and then you will remain registered for your entire time at TU Darmstadt if you do not withdraw.

You can only withdraw from a module in the semester in which you registered for the module. It is no longer possible for you to withdraw later; this can only be done through your Office for Student Affairs in your department.

What are the consequences of being registered for a module?

As long as you are registered for a module, this module will be displayed under “My modules” and you can register for courses and examinations in this module.

In some elective areas of some regulations of degree programmes, the number of modules that can be registered in this area is limited. If you register for a module there and then do not complete it, this may restrict your further options when registering for other modules.

If you have already registered for an examination in the module, this module will remain in your course of study as an unfinished module until you pass the examination. As long as you have incomplete modules on your record, your degree will be regarded as not being fully finished, even if you provided all of the necessary achievements.

Our advice:

If you know for sure that you do not want to complete a module after all, you should withdraw from this module in the semester of registration so that your overview of your modules remains clear.
Later this can only be done via your Office for Student Affairs.
