Doctoral Network “Unite!Energy” receives funding as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action
Research for the energy transition: The international Doctoral Network “Unite!Energy”, with the participation of TU Darmstadt, is investigating the use of hydrogen for chemical energy storage. The network is being funded by the EU for four years with around 3.2 million euros. For the first time, all partners of the university alliance Unite! are involved in a joint doctoral network.

Plastic-free oceans

Ocean sustainability in the sights of ULISSES
ULisboa is holding the 5th edition of the project and applications are open from 15 November to 15 December. Under the motto ‘Ocean without Plastics’, the initiative aims to creatively develop innovative technological solutions to characterise and mitigate the pollution of the oceans by plastics, guaranteeing biodiversity and the sustainable reuse of these materials in applications with economic value.

Intercomprehension workshop for staff members of all Unite! universities
Intercomprehension is the competence or strategy to understand languages that we haven’t learned yet, but that are part of the same language family of a language we already know. In the workshop, intercomprehension as a strategy will be explained and tested. The workshop will take place in December 2024 and January 2025, apply by 30. November.

All the exhausting work done by the Virtual Inclusion Office these past years related to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (I.D.E.A.) is now compiled and can be consulted in one platform accessible on Metacampus called “Unite! Network for Inclusion”. By housing these comprehensive resources, this common repository helps drive a coordinated and informed approach to inclusion and diversity across the Unite! alliance. This plays a critical role in fostering a more inclusive environment by offering a wide range of resources designed to promote best practices in diversity and inclusion.

Unite!’s first Awards
The X. Unite! Dialogue and the II Unite Branding Event brought together around 500 people from Europe to work together on the vision of a European Campus. This requires a great deal of commitment and dedication, and the Unite! community shows a great deal of this, said TU and Unite! president Tanja Brühl at the presentation of the first Unite! Awards and the Unite! Start-up Award during the closing session of the Dialogue.

Unite! community meets at the TU Darmstadt
From 24 to 26 September 2024, the Unite! community came together for the X Unite! Dialogue at TU Darmstadt, where the alliance was founded five years ago – a good opportunity to look back on what has been achieved so far and look ahead to the future. Around 500 Unite! members and external representatives from science, business, politics and civil society were welcomed to the II Unite Branding Event. The focus was on cooperation between universities and society.

Unite! as a guest at the TU

European University Alliance comes to Darmstadt
Since its foundation in 2019, TU Darmstadt has been the coordinator of the European University Alliance Unite! The alliance now consists of nine partner universities from Finland to Portugal and meets every six months for internal working meetings to work on the shared vision of a European campus. The next meeting will take place from 24 to 26 September in Darmstadt, the II Unite! Branding Event on 25 September will bring Unite! to life for all TU members and external partners.

For the first time, the Language Resource Centre of TU Darmstadt is organising the European Day of Languages on 26 September – to coincide with the third day of the Unite! Dialogue, which is also taking place in Darmstadt. Together with the European University Alliance, which consists of nine European partner universities, TU Darmstadt is celebrating Europe's linguistic and cultural diversity and invites its university members and their families to join in.

Unite! honors start-ups for the first time
Unite! meets for the 10th time – and is growing. More members are taking part in the biannual Dialogue, more projects and ideas have emerged and more connections have been made: The Start-up & Innovation Day 2024 (InnoDay24) of the Innovation and Start-up Center HIGHEST at TU Darmstadt concludes the Dialogue and takes the opportunity to also give the start-up scene of the nine partner universities space and to network with each other. For the first time, an international jury of experts will present the Unite! start-up award to the two best start-ups.

Under the theme “Inspiring People – Sparking Innovation,” these events aim to emphasise the collaboration between universities and society, as well as to showcase and disseminate the achievements of the alliance to a wider public.
