Building up a European Open Science and Innovation University

The research work led by Rubén Vicente Sáez for Unite! European University Alliance culminated on October 24-25,2023 at Aalto University with the final Open Science Policy Forum.
In the Unite! H2020 project strategic tools and policy guidelines have been developed to advance the modernization of R&I governance models at universities in the digital era. The research work led by Rubén Vicente Sáez for Unite! European University Alliance culminated on October 24-25,2023 at Aalto University with the final Open Science Policy Forum that also gathered stakeholders from the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies. This was the fifth and final policy forum that have taken place in different Unite! universities around Europe involving researchers, staff, university managers, and decision makers. The aim of the final policy forum was to explore how the new university open science and innovation governance model developed in the project can contribute to the solving of grand societal challenges and be scaled-up at European level.

UNITE.H2020 team worked on the first set of common objectives and activities
Based on the shared Alliance R&I strategic approach, and in line with the European Commission, Member States and Regional research agendas, the Unite! R&I Agenda defines a set of common Research and Technology Transfer & Innovation objectives. The long-term vision of each partner converges into the Agenda, where the partners’ strengths are combined to reach a “whole beyond its parts”, towards a joint R&I strategy.

Intercomprehension workshop for Unite! staff members
Intercomprehension is the competence or strategy to understand languages that we haven’t learned yet, but that are part of the same language family of a language we already know. In the workshop, intercomprehension as a strategy will be explained and tested. By using specific strategies, understanding texts in Dutch, German, Swedish or other Germanic languages will be suddenly much easier. Furthermore, intercomprehension introduces an easy way to learn reading a new language of the same language family autonomously. The workshop will take place in the first half of December 2023, apply by 29. November.

Level up your outreach & communication skills

The aim of this webinar, which will take place online on 21th November from 5pm to 7pm, is to offer undergraduate, master's and doctoral Unite! students the tools and resources to improve their outreach and communication skills. Apply before 15th November
Level up your outreach skills: power networking and cool communication for students is the title of the first Unite! Outreach training. The activity is for the alliance students interested in improving their communication skills when working with non-specialised audiences, such as future students, civil society organisations, citizens, small and medium-sized enterprises or public administrations.

Unite! Workshop Series “Paving the Way for the Future”

Unite! has now available a series of online workshops to the entire academic community in order to reduce the barriers to human resources motivation, equality, career progress, and reward
These workshops are based on an analysis of best practices and existing policies for Human Resources Strategies for Researchers (HRS4R) in research and academia, policies and measures to eliminate brain drain and to strengthen knowledge circulation, barriers to equal inclusion and effective strategies to attract, assess and reward researchers.

EU fördert internationales Projekt GreenChips-EDU
Die TU Darmstadt ist mit weiteren 14 Hochschulen, Unternehmen und Forschungseinrichtungen unter Leitung der TU Graz am internationalen Forschungsprojekt „GreenChips-EDU“ beteiligt. Ziel ist es, dringend benötigte Fachkräfte für die Halbleiterbranche auszubilden. Die EU fördert das Vorhaben mit 7,15 Millionen Euro. Mit der TU Darmstadt sind fünf weitere Hochschulen des Konsortiums Partner der Europäischen Hochschulallianz Unite!.

All aboard the U!Train – But first, we need your ideas!

Have you heard about the U! Train? It's an ambitiously exciting Unite! course, scheduled to depart, September 2024
In a nutshell, 30 students will embark on a unique journey, traveling by train from one Unite! partner university (UPC Barcelona) to another (Grenoble INP-UGA). Along the way, students will engage in various non-academic activities. Upon reaching their destination, they will continue with team-building exercises and, of course, academic work. The course, also including virtual studies before or after the September U!Train, will be worth 3 credits (ECTS).

Open science and research data management trainings

New topics for fall 2023
Understanding proper research data management is becoming more and more important to researchers and students across disciplines. Data management plans are increasingly required by funders, and researchers urgently need data management and open science skills to enhance the impact of their research. Aalto University’s Research Data Management Network and Data Agents organise a free webinar training series on research data management and open science to everyone and invite researchers, students and service staff from Unite! universities to take part.

Doctoral Research Grant opportunities in three Unite! priority areas

The call for the 15 PhD Fellowships is open from July 20th to August 21st, 2023, under the collaboration agreement between ULisboa and FCT.
The Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa), in collaboration with the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and together with Unite!, will award 15 PhD scholarships in three Unite! priority areas, but other areas are not excluded. The call for applications runs until 21 August 2023.

Unite! Seed Fund supports two student projects

ARISE programme and READING Unite! – U! Reading Club receive financial support
With the Unite! Seed Fund, Unite! aims to financially support innovative, co-creative and collaborative ideas from teachers, researchers and students within the Unite! alliance and to encourage the exploration and development of attractive and diverse activities and projects. The first call started in May this year. Now the first student projects are being financially supported.

The VIII Unite! Dialogue will be focused on Unite! Ecosystems

Connecting the Unite! student community at the Unite! Student Festival

The Unite! Student Festival Lisbon 2023 took place at the University of Lisbon, between the 29th of June and the 1st of July 2023, the first event for the entire student community of the nine Unite! partner universities.
For three days, the University of Lisbon experienced a special moment with the presence of two hundred students from the nine Unite! partner universities, who gathered in the Unite! Student Festival, in what was the first alliance event, by students, for students.

Congratulations to the 7 winners of the student video contest!

It is finally time to announce the winners of the student video contest. Launched by the Multilingual & Multicultural Training Centre (M&M), this contest aimed at showing the cultural diversity that defines Unite!
27 students participated in the student video contest and shared their daily student life with the whole Unite! community. Last week, all videos were uploaded on Unite!'s Metacampus so that all the students from the alliance could vote for their favourite video. Voting is now closed and we count seven winners. The winning videos will be used for pedagogical and dissemination purposes within the alliance and the winning students will be invited to the Unite! Student Festival in Lisbon, from June 29 to July 1st.
