UNITE.H2020 comes to an end – UNITE!Widening begins
The UNITE.H2020 project has shaped an integrated R&I strategy for the European University Alliance Unite!, concluding in December 2023. The follow-up UNITE!Widening project, starting in January 2024, aims to strengthen scientific capabilities in Portugal and Poland, highlighted in a Lisbon meeting on February 1st and 2nd.

Language Tandems offer you the possibility to practice any of the Unite! languages with another student from the Unite! community. It is a great opportunity for you to develop speaking skills in a language you want to improve in, while also meeting other students and widening your international network!

CoDaS, one of the first joint degree programmes offered by the Unite! alliance, has been granted the prestigious Erasmus Mundus funding by Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union in 2023. Unite! workshop drives collaborative progress in renewable biotechnology

As part of a Unite! seed funded project, researchers and scientists from KTH Stockholm, TU Darmstadt and TU Graz focus on joint training, hands-on collaboration and new insights in the field of renewable biotechnology.
Sustainable processes for the utilization of carbon dioxide and biomass as future resource base of the industry will highly influence the circular bioeconomy. TU Graz, KTH and TU Darmstadt already hold a strong position in the field of renewable biotechnology, including microbial and enzymatic CO2 utilization and the biocatalytic synthesis of high-value products and commodities. Together they want to unite and expand the biotechnology division within European universities.

The Ulisses! Project is back!

University of Lisbon Interdisciplinary Studies on Sustainable Environment and Seas (ULISSES) is a project that will provide students with a deep knowledge of ocean related problems. Applications for the 4th edition of the Ulisses project are open until 15 December.

Building up a European Open Science and Innovation University

The research work led by Rubén Vicente Sáez for Unite! European University Alliance culminated on October 24-25,2023 at Aalto University with the final Open Science Policy Forum.
In the Unite! H2020 project strategic tools and policy guidelines have been developed to advance the modernization of R&I governance models at universities in the digital era. The research work led by Rubén Vicente Sáez for Unite! European University Alliance culminated on October 24-25,2023 at Aalto University with the final Open Science Policy Forum that also gathered stakeholders from the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies. This was the fifth and final policy forum that have taken place in different Unite! universities around Europe involving researchers, staff, university managers, and decision makers. The aim of the final policy forum was to explore how the new university open science and innovation governance model developed in the project can contribute to the solving of grand societal challenges and be scaled-up at European level.

UNITE.H2020 team worked on the first set of common objectives and activities
Based on the shared Alliance R&I strategic approach, and in line with the European Commission, Member States and Regional research agendas, the Unite! R&I Agenda defines a set of common Research and Technology Transfer & Innovation objectives. The long-term vision of each partner converges into the Agenda, where the partners’ strengths are combined to reach a “whole beyond its parts”, towards a joint R&I strategy.

Intercomprehension workshop for Unite! staff members
Intercomprehension is the competence or strategy to understand languages that we haven’t learned yet, but that are part of the same language family of a language we already know. In the workshop, intercomprehension as a strategy will be explained and tested. By using specific strategies, understanding texts in Dutch, German, Swedish or other Germanic languages will be suddenly much easier. Furthermore, intercomprehension introduces an easy way to learn reading a new language of the same language family autonomously. The workshop will take place in the first half of December 2023, apply by 29. November.

Level up your outreach skills: power networking and cool communication for students is the title of the first Unite! Outreach training. The activity is for the alliance students interested in improving their communication skills when working with non-specialised audiences, such as future students, civil society organisations, citizens, small and medium-sized enterprises or public administrations.

Unite! has now available a series of online workshops to the entire academic community in order to reduce the barriers to human resources motivation, equality, career progress, and reward
These workshops are based on an analysis of best practices and existing policies for Human Resources Strategies for Researchers (HRS4R) in research and academia, policies and measures to eliminate brain drain and to strengthen knowledge circulation, barriers to equal inclusion and effective strategies to attract, assess and reward researchers.

EU fördert internationales Projekt GreenChips-EDU
Die TU Darmstadt ist mit weiteren 14 Hochschulen, Unternehmen und Forschungseinrichtungen unter Leitung der TU Graz am internationalen Forschungsprojekt „GreenChips-EDU“ beteiligt. Ziel ist es, dringend benötigte Fachkräfte für die Halbleiterbranche auszubilden. Die EU fördert das Vorhaben mit 7,15 Millionen Euro. Mit der TU Darmstadt sind fünf weitere Hochschulen des Konsortiums Partner der Europäischen Hochschulallianz Unite!.

All aboard the U!Train – But first, we need your ideas!

Have you heard about the U! Train? It's an ambitiously exciting Unite! course, scheduled to depart, September 2024
In a nutshell, 30 students will embark on a unique journey, traveling by train from one Unite! partner university (UPC Barcelona) to another (Grenoble INP-UGA). Along the way, students will engage in various non-academic activities. Upon reaching their destination, they will continue with team-building exercises and, of course, academic work. The course, also including virtual studies before or after the September U!Train, will be worth 3 credits (ECTS).
