Sustainable and Resilient Energy for Europe?!

Unite! Winter School at TU Darmstadt for researchers
The Graduate School Energy Science and Engineering of TU Darmstadt invites you from 6 to 8 December 2022 to the Unite! Winter School “Sustainable and Resilient Energy for Europe?!”. The Winter School is aimed at doctoral students, postdocs, practising engineers and researchers from the fields of energy systems, energy policy and energy economics. It will cover scientific and technical aspects of the production and use of carbon-free and sustainable energy storage systems, such as hydrogen and iron, as well as socio-economic aspects, such as the multi-level governance of hydrogen strategies. Participants will gain insights into current challenges and approaches to solutions in an energy landscape that is changing daily. The Winter School will take place as a hybrid event. Participation is free of charge. Free hotel accommodation is provided for 20 applicants from Unite! universities. Registration is open until 15 November 2022.

Unite! Teaching and Learning conference
Capacity building in pedagogy and examples of innovation in teaching is crucial to renewing our university education. The Teaching and Learning Unite! Conference 2022 – A Unite!-Ed Future offers an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas with a focus on, for example, interaction in digital and hybrid learning environments, student-centered learning and various aspects of sustainable development. The conference will be online via Zoom, on November 10, 9-16 CET. Registration deadline is November 8, 2022.

New Winter School on Biomass and Innovative Materials

Grenoble invites Unite! students
From 6 to 10 February 2023, Unite! students get special access to the first edition of the Unite! winter school on Biomass and innovative materials, which will take place in Grenoble. It will focus on the themes of plant biomass valorisation (green and agri food waste, wood residues) as well as production of biomaterials (or bio sourced materials). Applications are open until 15 November 2022.

aUPaEU: Unite!'s new acceleration service for higher education institutions

The University Partnership for Acceleration of European Universities (aUPaEu) project has received 3.4 million funding from the European Commission in the framework of the European Research Area call (HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-ERA-01) for the integration and implementation of acceleration services and will start in January 2023

TU Graz and Wroclaw Tech are now official Unite! partners
On September 20th, during the VI Unite! Dialogue hosted by Politecnico di Torino. Prof. Dr. Harald Kainz, Rector of the Graz University of Technology, and Prof. Dr. Arkadiusz Wójs, President of the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, signed the Unite! Charter confirming the full inclusion of both universities to the Unite! alliance. The signature act has taken place during the Unite! Governing Platform in the presence of Unite!'s president Tanja Brühl and all the rectors/presidents of the different Unite! partner universities.

VI Unite! Dialogue in Turin
With over 250 academic, staff and student participants coming from nine European Universities, the Unite! Alliance sixth Dialogue was just hosted at Politecnico di Torino on September 20-22. The Alliance, which concluded its sixth Dialogue, was recently awarded with additional funding from the European Commission. Together with the University delegations, other main participants were EC representatives, CRUI Rector’s Conference, the main German technical Universities’ network – TU9, plus Torino, Barcelona and Stockholm municipalities and the other five CLUSTER European Alliances.

European Researchers' Night: Unite! smart cities – by and for the citizens

On European Researchers' Night the Unite! alliance invites you to learn about the transition to sustainable and climate-neutral cities by 2030.
The European Researchers' Night is a Europe-wide public event, which displays the diversity of science and its impact on citizens' daily lives in fun, inspiring ways. This year, the event will take place in 25 countries on Friday 30 September 2022. The Unite! University Alliance is participating.

Open Science Summer School at Aalto University
One of the focus areas of the UNITE.H2020 project is the promotion of open science. Open science is transparent and accessible knowledge that is shared and developed through collaborative networks. It involves sharing ideas, data, methods and results with local, national, regional and global collaborative networks of research participants. It also goes beyond this to encompass the production and use of this scientific knowledge among these collaborative networks.

Members of all Unite! partner universities visit the new partner in Poland
Wrocław University of Science and Technology (Wroclaw Tech), which together with the Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) have recently joined the Unite! alliance, hosted the last meeting of representatives of all Unite! Steering Committee. This body of the alliance integrates the so-called Key Liaison Officers (KLO) along with their deputies, and it is responsible for the coordination and continuous development of the alliance, as well as for cooperation between the partner universities, comprising the representatives from all partners.

The Institute for Mechatronic Systems of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the TU Darmstadt is looking for a Unite! student who is interested in doing a Master's thesis on European electricity pricing. The institute will provide supervision both on-site (Erasmus programme) and virtually (without exchange programme).

Launch of the Autumn series of the Unite! virtual language and global competence courses

Unite! students can access the new autumn offer of online language courses, communication and global skills offered by the member universities of Unite!
The Unite! Multilingual and Multicultural Training Centre has launched the new autumn series of Virtual learning tools and Language learning. These course offer students the possibility to improve their global competence, their ability to communicate and work effectively with people of different backgrounds through language and culture courses. The courses can be taken online and its an opportunity to learn with students from other European universities. Participating in this offer of courses, the student will be able to improve his knowledge of some of the nine official languages of the alliance.
