TU Darmstadt and project Clean Circles host second international conference on metals as renewable energy carriers

From November 13–15, 160 international researchers, industry leaders, and innovators converged in Darmstadt to explore one of the most promising green energy solutions: metals as renewable energy carriers. Hosted by TU Darmstadt in partnership with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and TU Eindhoven, the 2nd Conference on the Metal-enabled Cycle of Renewable Energy (MeCRE) showcased groundbreaking research and industry advances in harnessing the energy-storing power of iron and aluminum.

Collaborative research centres organise joint gender equality event

What was life like for the three outstanding female researchers Marie Curie, Lise Meitner and Hedy Lamarr in a male-dominated world at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century? What open rejection and doubt did they face and how did they manage to stand up to it? Answers were provided by a play performed on 30 October 2024 at the Technical University of Darmstadt.

Research idea Metal-to-H2 and Heat awarded in two areas

The research idea MetalH2eat (short for Metal-to-H2 and Heat) has won two prizes in the TU Ideenwettberb (TU Darmstadt Idea Contest): first place in the Scientists category and the Merck Sustainability Prize. The award ceremony took place on 26 September at the TU Darmstadt's InnoDay 2024.

Theater performance and panel discussion

On 30 October 2024, Clean Circles together with several Collaborative Research Centres at TU Darmstadt will present the play “Curie_Meitner_Lamarr_indivisible” by portraittheater Wien. The play is based on the biographies of Marie Skłodowska Curie, Lise Meitner and Hedy Lamarr. A subsequent panel discussion will focus on historical perspectives of gender equality in science.

Simulation game illustrates the complexity of sustainable development

As part of this year's Clean Circles PhD student seminar, PhD students came together at the Technical University of Darmstadt to present and discuss current research findings and gain an interactive insight into the complexity of sustainability goals. In addition to presentations and laboratory visits, the Sustain2030 simulation game was a particular focus.

New research results presented in Milan

The renowned Combustion Institute conference takes place every two years. At the end of July, combustion researchers from all over the world gathered in Milan (Italy) under this year's motto “Emphasizing Energy Transition”.
