Sustainable Urban Development

Master of Science

Description

The Joint Degree Master Programme “Sustainable Urban Development” is a full-time Master Programme at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) in Ho Chi Minh City and the Technische Universität Darmstadt. Like the topic “Sustainable Urban Development” itself, the programme is multi- and interdisciplinary. Students are introduced to the methods required to solve the challenges of sustainable urban development on a project-related basis. Graduates of this programme are able to initiate, control and implement processes of sustainable urban development at various levels (regional, city-wide, neighbourhood-related, construction project-related).

Interested students can apply either at the VGU or at TU Darmstadt for admission to the programme. Those who apply to TU Darmstadt start their studies in the first semester at TU Darmstadt; those who apply to the VGU start their studies in the first semester at the VGU. In the second semester all students study together at TU Darmstadt; in the third semester all students study at the VGU. In the fourth semester, for writing the master's thesis, each student can chose the university which offers the best conditions for the project they have developed.

Special Features The Joint Degree Master Programme “Sustainable Urban Development” is a full-time Master Programme at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) in Ho Chi Minh City and the Technische Universität Darmstadt.

While the Bachelor of Science focuses mainly on the fundamentals of the field, the Master of Science builds directly on this foundation by providing students with more depth and breadth scientifically and more insight into the field. In contrast to the Bachelor degree programme the Master of Science enables and requires students to adopt their own major focus and to work towards their own independent academic, scientific research profile.

For these reasons it is recommended that students complete a Master of Science degree.

Upon successful completion of a Master of Science degree, there is the opportunity to begin working towards a Ph.D. either at the TU Darmstadt or at another national or international university: Ph.D. at TU Darmstadt

Due to their ability to initiate, manage and implement processes of sustainable urban development at different levels (regional, city-wide, neighbourhood-related, construction project-related), graduates of the Joint-Degree Master's programme “Sustainable Urban Development” find positions in the public and private sectors of urban development, both nationally and internationally. This includes the development of new or the conversion of existing urban districts as well as the implementation of new infrastructures. Employers are also internationally active consulting and planning offices in the field of sustainable urban development; as well as organisations in the field of development aid, e.g. Gesellschaft für IInternationale Zusammenarbeit, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau or other international organisations.
