Description

Environmental engineering is related to civil engineering and connects the engineering sciences with the natural, ecological and legal sciences, among others. The wide variety and combination possibilities of the various modules and elective courses allow students to address their personal interests in the area. A mentoring system supports each student during the process of selecting suitable courses and subjects.

Students are encouraged to spend a semester abroad studying or working towards completion of their Master’s thesis.

Early application deadline for international applicants: The application portal TUCaN is already open for international applicants from 1st March 2024 to 31st August 2024 for an application for the winter semester 2024/25. This serves, for example, for the application for a visa or for submission to the Foreigners' Registration Office. More information can be found on our website.
Good to know An application for the winter semester 2021-22 is only possible for a first semester, a recognition of already achieved Master's achievements can be applied for at the study office of the Department 13 after successful enrolment.

Whether climate change, disappearing natural resources, overpopulation or megacities and their related problems, environmental issues are becoming more and more important. It will not be possible to accomplish these serious challenges without technical solutions. One can readily assume that environmental knowledge will be highly valued in the future, giving graduates of this program a high degree of employability.

Environmental engineers are employed in areas dealing with water supply and disposal, waste disposal, energy supply, environmental aspects of urban planning, decontamination of air, ground and noise pollution.

Environmental engineers work as project leaders, appraisers and planners. They may be employed in engineering offices, public service, development projects, transport companies and sanitation services.

Environmental engineers often work closely with civil engineers, geodetic engineers, mechanical engineers, architects, spatial planners and landscape planners, as well as in teams with natural, industrial or social scientists to find solutions to various issues.

For this reason it is important to start early in the degree programme to gain practical work experience in relevant organisations. In this way students can promote themselves as competent professionals in practice and make important professional contacts. The likelihood of finding a good position is definitely heightened if the student is flexible when it comes to commuting or even moving abroad. Good English language skills are particularly important when it comes to the international job market.
