Description

The interdisciplinary Master of Arts Sportmanagement programme is characterised by the teaching of professional, social and personal competences in order to be able to adequately analyse and solve questions and problems in the interface area of sports science, psychology as well as law and economics. The core competence is the ability to integrate knowledge of sports science and law/economics. On the one hand, existing knowledge should be able to be used and integrated for the solution, on the other hand, new knowledge should be able to be generated. The study programme enables students to independently, theoretically guided and goal-orientedly find adequate solutions for scientific as well as practice-related problems and promotes the willingness to reflect as well as the ability to criticise.

Degree, length Master of Arts, 4 semesters
Language German. Individual courses can be offered in English. Please be aware that scientific literature is be read and edited also in English.
Admission Applying with international qualifications (language requirements, application deadlines): International Admission .
Requirements for admission to the Master’s degree programme are
1. a Joint Bachelor’s degree in a field of study combined with Sports Science, or a B.Sc. Sports Science degree, both from the Technical University of Darmstadt (reference study programmes), or in an equivalent bachelor’s degree in sports science.
2. Specific degree entrance requirements may be found in the Study Regulations and in the Competences description.
3. Proof of physical fitness in the form of a Medical Certificate (opens in new tab).

Sportwissenschaft – Lehramt an beruflichen Schulen, M.Ed.

Graduates of the Master of Arts programme Sportanagement occupy positions that are located at the interface of the disciplines of law and economics, psychology, and sports science (sports theory and sports practice) or pertain directly to Sports Management. The graduates can find employment in, for instance, mid or high-level management positions. These are positions in the areas of, for example, project management, sponsoring consulting, product management, marketing management or in the field of sports administration (particularly in associations).

Typical employers include tourism companies, various agencies (e.g. marketing agencies, event agencies), media, universities, clubs and associations, sporting goods manufacturers, health and fitness companies, business consultancies and various industrial companies as well as the public sector (e.g. sports offices). There, graduates occupy various positions at the middle or higher management level, such as positions in the areas of project management, sponsoring consulting, product management, marketing management and sports direction.

For this reason it is important to start early in the degree programme to gain practical work experience in relevant organisations. In this way students can promote themselves as competent professionals in practice and make important professional contacts. The likelihood of finding a good position is definitely heightened if the student is flexible when it comes to commuting or even moving abroad. Good English language skills are particularly important when it comes to the international job market.
