Sustainable Urban Development

Master of Science; tuition language: English

Description

The Joint Degree Master Programme “Sustainable Urban Development” is a full-time Master Programme at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) in Ho Chi Minh City and the Technical University of Darmstadt. Like the topic “Sustainable Urban Development” itself, the programme is multi- and interdisciplinary. Students are introduced to the methods required to solve the challenges of sustainable urban development on a project-related basis. Graduates of this programme are able to initiate, control and implement processes of sustainable urban development at various levels (regional, city-wide, neighbourhood-related, construction project-related).

Application for admission into the programme is possible either at the VGU or at the Technical University of Darmstadt. Those who apply at the Technical University of Darmstadt start their studies in the first semester in Darmstadt; those who apply to the VGU start their studies in the first semester there. In the second semester, all students study jointly in Darmstadt; in the third semester, all students study at the VGU. In the fourth semester, for writing the master's thesis, students can chose the university which offers the best conditions for the individual projects they have developed.

Doctoral Studies

Due to their ability to initiate, manage and implement processes of sustainable urban development at different levels (regional, city-wide, neighbourhood-related, construction project-related), graduates of the Joint-Degree Master's programme “Sustainable Urban Development” find positions in the public and private sectors of urban development, both nationally and internationally. This includes the development of new or the conversion of existing urban districts as well as the implementation of new infrastructures. Employers are also internationally active consulting and planning offices in the field of sustainable urban development; as well as organisations in the field of development aid, e.g. Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau or other international organisations.
