Description

The Master of Arts degree programme in Educational Science at the Technische Universität Darmstadt reflects on educational science in connection with current social developments. In doing so, it is important to ask questions about why and how the educational sciences themselves are determined by society and are involved in social changes. Graduates of the degree programme have dealt with the discipline of educational sciences in an appropriate breadth, they are aware of special features and limits, they are methodologically profiled and have well-founded knowledge and competence to act as well as critical reflection skills.

On the basis of the Institute's research profiles, it is possible to develop a profile in the focus areas of education, media and culture or vocational and in-company education, for example.

The degree programme qualifies students for supervised research work based on sound knowledge of scientific paradigms, a disciplinary self-image and the use of scientific methods. The students learn to take up complex scientific questions, to penetrate them in a problem-conscious manner, to work on them with scientific methods and to develop reflected approaches to solutions. In accordance with the principles for studying and teaching at the TU Darmstadt, the study objectives focus primarily on specialised knowledge oriented towards current research questions on the basis of in-depth fundamental knowledge.

Alumni careers

Various career options are open to students after finishing their degree. Practical experience from internships, including relevant references, often play a role in beginning a career, given the unique, expert profile that graduates have established.

The Master oft Arts in Bildungswissenschaften is particularly suited to establishing an academic, scientific career at universities and research institutes, but also with university-external educational institutes, for example for adult education (e.g. evening colleges, company training institutes), political parties and associations. Educational experts also find positions in the advisory field (e.g. educational, marriage, business counselling).

For this reason it is important to start early in the degree programme to gain practical work experience in relevant organisations. In this way students can promote themselves as competent professionals in practice and make important professional contacts. The likelihood of finding a good position is definitely heightened if the student is flexible when it comes to commuting or even moving abroad. Good English language skills are particularly important when it comes to the international job market.
