Bachelor of Education; language: German

Bachelor of Education + Master of Education -> Lehramt an beruflichen Schulen (Teaching at Vocational Schools)

The programme Lehramt an beruflichen Schulen at the Technical University of Darmstadt consists of two connected study programmes:

  • first, the Bachelor of Education programme (6 semesters; vocational field of study) and
  • subsequently, the Master of Education programme (4 semesters; subject of general education/subject studies).
  • In addition to methodical and didactical subjects, practical classroom training complements the programme.

Only the completion of both the Bachelor of Education and the Master of Education is equivalent to the first state examination in the state of Hesse and therefore mandatory for the admission to the preparatory period (teaching practice) or the teaching profession.

Curriculum

The professional field covered by the Körperpflege degree programme includes, for example, hairdressers, beauticians and make-up artists. However, the programme is also aimed at others who are interested in body sciences, fashion and aesthetics.

Body sciences analyse the body from different perspectives. Accordingly, the degree programme is divided equally between fashion and aesthetics as areas of art and cultural studies and biology and chemistry as areas of natural sciences. Pedagogical and didactic modules are also fundamental for the teaching profession.

The Chair of Fashion and Aesthetics, alongside the didactics of fashion and aesthetics/Körperpflege, is a unique feature of the body care/Körperpflege degree programmes in Germany, professionalising teacher training in this area.

A successful Bachelor's degree in Körperpflege can also form the basis for other Master's programmes that build on it, opening up a variety of study prospects, for example in business or the natural sciences.

The choice of sport as a subject in all B.Ed. programmes is also suspended. If you have not already started studying Sport in a B.Ed. programme, you will no longer be able to study it in the B.Ed. programme. It is not possible to continue a B.Ed. programme with Sport as a subject consecutively with an M.Ed. Sport programme unless you are already enrolled in the M.Ed. Sport programme.

Note on the professional specialisation with Evangelische / Katholische Religion as an elective subject

The elective subjects Evangelische Religion and Katholische Religion, respectively, are currently not available.

Is the programme right for you? Find out!

For enrolment in the Lehramt Erweiterungsfach (complementary teacher training programme), in particular you need to already have a First State Examination or an equivalent qualification such as Master of Education or you must be currently enrolled in a teacher training course (teaching profession at secondary schools, Bachelor of Education, Master of Education).

  • Job opportunities for graduates of the Bachelor of Education can for example be found in corporate vocational training institutions, in the field of vocational training studies.
  • Entering the preparatory period (teaching practice) for teaching in the broad field of public vocational schools, however, is only possible after having completed the graduate degree programme Master of Education.

Predictions about the future demand for teachers or their employment opportunities are difficult to make as both depend on a number of different factors. This includes, for example, demographic development, the selected combination of subjects or the type of school, the political framework, etc.
